Steven Joseph Fortner, 72, of Culpeper, Va., passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at his residence. He was born on June 6, 1950, in Kentucky, to the late Paul Justice Fortner and Eileen Eleanor Fortner. In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Linda Darlene Fortner and brother, Michael P. Fortner.

Steven was the author of “My Blessed Bride,” a true and inspirational love story. He was the co-founder of Quality Performance, Inc. (QPI), a high tech, small business, specializing in manufacturing and distributing solid-state metrological and navigational equipment to the U.S. Navy and air capable ships. The company was sold in 2017 after 27 years of operation.

Steven was a volunteer teacher of the Bible to inmates at Prince William County jail for 12 years. He also served in the Belmont Ruritan Club for seven years. Another accomplishment of Steven’s was in 2018 he started a 501(c) Charity (Belmont Foundation) to support children in elementary and middle schools in the Lake Anna Community.

Steven is survived by his children, Joseph D. Fortner and wife, Carmen, Alita M. Gilliom and her husband, William, Shane L. Fortner, and Charity L. Fortner and husband, Wallace; grandchildren, Alisha Arrington, Kimberly Gilliom, Wynter Ford, Kiyia Thomas, Snoe Ford, and Autumn Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Jayden, Cameron, and Gabriella, and Marcel Gilliom.

Additional survivors include his siblings; Carolyn Rennekame, Paul L. Fortner and his wife, Christie, Mary Rafizadeh and her husband, Amir, John Fortner, and his wife, Debbie, Jeffrey Fortner and his wife, Beverly, Theresa Jaafari and her husband, Bashar, and James Fortner and his wife, Julie.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023, 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701, with Pastor Steve Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 2 p.m with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy.
