James Frederick “Dick” Huckstep, age 93, of Earlysville, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Hospice House.
Born on April 1, 1921 he was a son of the late John Henry and Annie Elnora Huckstep. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by five sisters and six brothers.
On April 22, 1950 Dick married the love of his life, Ruby Agnes Garrison, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2006. Together Dick and Ruby are survived by their sons Fred Huckstep and his wife Sandy, and Keith Huckstep and his wife Paula; grandchildren, Tara, Brenn, Marta, Jason, Diane, Kevin, Kimberly, Billie Jo, and Cynthia. Dick and Ruby also leave a legacy of 10 great grandchildren.
Dick served in the Army Air Corp before establishing Huckstep’s Garage in Free Union, Virginia in 1946. He was a founding member of the Ruritan Club of Earlysville in 1964. Dick was also a member of the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Company for several years. He was also a faithful and devoted member of Ivy Creek United Methodist Church over 60 years.
A Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00am Monday, February 16, 2015 at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made in Dick’s name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Company, 283 Reas Ford Road, Earlysville, VA 22936.
