Donnie Herring of Boonesville, Va., passed away on June 6, 2022. He was born to James and Lydia Herring on February 14, 1948.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Morris Herring; his mother-in-law, Marie Morris; his son, Shannon Herring and his wife, Analisa; his daughter, Kelley Shifflett and her husband, Stan. Donnie had four grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Braedon, Marley and Emma Herring and Logan Shifflett. In addition to his immediate family, Donnie is survived by his sisters, Betty Shifflett and her husband, Jimmy, and Judy Herring Hughes. Donnie was predeceased by his brothers, Jimmy and Leroy Herring and his sisters, Phyllis Barbour, Juanita Davis and Shirley Morris.
Donnie has numerous nieces and nephews who loved and adored him. He also loved and was loved by his Nortonsville Church of God family.
Donnie was most proud of his service as a Sergeant in the Army’s First Cav Unit in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned home after being injured and began to work for Centel where he retired after 30+ years of faithful service.
Donnie and Virginia have been incredibly blessed by the amazing friendships of Chris and Brenda Miller, Donnie and Barbara Shifflett and Pastor David and sister, Carol Allison.
We would like to invite family and friends to join us in celebrating the life of Donnie on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Rd. Dyke, VA 22935. Viewing and visitation will begin at 11 a.m. a funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be held at the Herring Family Cemetery to follow the funeral service.
Donnie was an amazing husband, father, son-in-law, father-in-law and granddaddy. No words will ever describe how much Donnie meant to his family. To say that we loved him isn’t enough.
