Irene Luck, the Rapidan District’s 2016 District Governor, is pleased to provide the following links to directions/patterns for the chemo cap project that is one of her favorite community service projects that she has been encouraging the District’s clubs to participate in. The directions/patterns, are from the Headuggers website that has many different patterns for chemo caps (including patterns for children,) and these three patterns have been chosen by Irene as her favorite ones:

Irene hopes to have the Rapidan District Clubs bring completed caps to the Rapidan District’s convention this upcoming November, and she plans to transport them to the Ruritan National Convention next January.


Greene County Ruritan Club Officers for 2016 Installed; Military Veterans Honored

The Greene County Ruritan Club’s Officers for 2016 were installed on December 17, 2015, at the Rosebrook Inn in Stanardsville, VA, during their Annual Christmas Dinner. The 2015 Rapidan District Governor, Linda Bradshaw, installed the new officers. The club officers will serve as the leaders of the Greene County Ruritan Club from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016.

The officers installed were Roy Dye, President, Andrea Wilkinson, Vice President, Paul Harrington, Secretary, Dick Early, Treasurer, and Joanne Burkholder, First Year Director.

After the installation, Bradshaw explained to the Greene County Ruritan Club the awards that the club had won for Community Service at the Rapidan District, and handed them to the club President, Andrea Wilkinson. The club won a “Silver” award for Public Service, and a “Gold” award for Social Development.

After the Community Service awards were given, Bradshaw honored the military veterans of the Greene County Ruritan Club with certificates of appreciation from the Rapidan District Cabinet. The presentation of the certificates was part of the Rapidan District’s efforts to and honor all of their local club’s veterans in 2015.

The veterans honored were: Robert Burkholder, Billy Caldwell, Tom Dean, Robert C. Doerr, Richard Early, Jerry Gore, Robert H. Grassi, James Ron Michael, Carl A. Schmitt, Norm Slezak, Steven S. Smith, Floyd Wilkinson, and Frank Wilzcek.

The Greene County Ruritan Club Display board that was used during the Rapidan District’s Convention in November 2015 was set up during the meeting for the members to enjoy. Plans are for the club to continue using the board at meetings and events to showcase their club’s events.

The Rapidan District’s Annual Winter Cabinet Presidents & Secretaries Dinner/Meeting will be held at 6:30pm January 18, 2016 at the East Orange Ruritan Club, at 24124 Constitution Highway, Unionville, VA 22567. A representative from each club in the Rapidan District will be given time to give a brief report of their club’s activities during the meeting. Please RSVP by January 11, 2016 with a headcount to 2016 Rapidan District Governor Irene Luck at 540-894-0663.


Rapidan District Cabinet Honors Louisa County Ruritan Veterans

The military veterans of the Louisa County Ruritan Club were honored September 15, 2015 at their September meeting in Louisa, VA, by presenting them with certificates of appreciation from the Rapidan District Cabinet during a visit by the Rapidan District Governor, Linda Bradshaw. The presentation of the certificates is part of the Rapidan District’s plans to thank, appreciate, and honor all of their local club’s veterans.

The veterans honored were Larry Edmonds, John B. Gilmer, and George Marshall.
