Sandy was born in Amherst County, Virginia on September 5th, 1937 to William Earl and Zora Thomas Tucker. Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann, his son Alan and his wife, Trudy, his beloved Granddaughters, Lauren Gale and Jessica Ann, his sister, Alice Shields, his sister-in-law, Vivian Newton, and nephews Terry and Billy Thompson and Mark Newton.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ardenia, and his daughter-in law, Angela.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959 as a Sgt. E-4. He was employed by the local telephone company until his retirement in 1992. He then worked building the Cove Creek Baseball Park and was quite proud of the results.

Sandy was proud of his work with the Cove Garden Ruritan Club, where he served as past President and currently as a member of the Board of Directors and received the Perfect Attendance Award of 50 years. Sandy was also a member of the North Garden Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as Chief and President. Sandy was also a prominent member of Mount Shiloh Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons.

Sandy’s service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Faber, conducted by Rev. Tom Foley. The burial will be at Mt. Pleasant’s Methodist Church Cemetery in Amherst, Virginia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
