William Glenn “Bill” Grigg, Sr. of Palmyra, formerly of Bristol, died December 23, 2014 at his home. He was born September 11, 1930 in Richmond, the son of the late Gordon Glenn and Pettice Forbes Grigg. Bill was a graduate of John Marshall High School and Emory & Henry College.

Bill served his country in the United States Navy. He was a sales representative for Solite and Stalite corporations and in 2007 received an award from the Expanded Shale, Clay and Slate Institute. Bill was very active in civic organizations. He was a member and 2007 President of the Fluvanna Ruritan Club and was the “2010 Ruritan of the Year.”

Bill also was a member of the Patrick Henry Society; Shelby Lodge No. 162 in Bristol, VA; the John Marshall Corp of Cadets, as well as other organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Lawson Grigg; four children, Margaret Ann Jackson of Richmond, Elizabeth Kelly of Greensboro, Gordon Grigg of Nashville and Bill Grigg, Jr. of Charlotte; two stepsons, Greg Arms of Palmyra and Geff Arms of Christiansburg; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dabney Grigg.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Smyrna United Methodist Church, 3377 N. James Madison Hwy., Farmville, VA 23901. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, is assisting the family.
