Wilfred Lacy Harris, 99, passed away on May 29, 2016. He was born to Gillette Gordon Harris and Lanetta Goodwyn Harris on July 1, 1916 in Culpeper. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Campbell Harris, his oldest son Wilfred Lacy Harris, Jr., and his granddaughter Susan Chilton DeJarnette.

Wilfred lived in Culpeper County all his life and resided on the family farm, Highland Hills, near Batna until his later years. He attended Lignum School, Culpeper County High School and Randolph Macon Academy. As a young man, he founded Culpeper Sand Company in Rixeyville, which later became Culpeper Stone Company, where he worked until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Lignum Ruritan Club, and an active member of the Culpeper Lions Club. He was a lifelong member of Lael Baptist Church and served as deacon, treasurer and trustee.

He was a very friendly man and enjoyed spending time with friends, neighbors and family. He was very inquisitive, always asking questions. He was especially inquisitive about the next meal and a great appreciator of classic southern food and the many good cooks in the family and community. An avid golfer and local traveler, he was always ready for a drive to see new places and meet new people.

He spent the last two years, ten months of his life as a resident of Mary’s Place in Culpeper, where he received loving and compassionate care from the Rohrer family and their staff.
He is survived by his son, George Keith Harris and wife Pam, daughter Mary Chilton DeJarnette and husband Spencer, daughter-in-law Patti Bill Willis Harris as well as grandchildren Jacy Harvey and husband Cliff, Gillette Harris and wife Donna, Michael Harris and wife Susan, Jennifer Hall, Kelly Via and husband Sam, Eric Green, Brit Green and wife Merriel and Joe DeJarnette. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Lael Baptist Church with interment in the Lael Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Clore-English Funeral Home.
