W. Herman Phillippe, 92, of Spotsylvania County passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, June 30, 2015 surrounded by his children and family.
Mr. Phillippe was a native of Spotsylvania. He was the son of the late Harrison and Sallie Phillippe. Mr. Phillippe was one of five children.
He attended Travelers Rest Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Dept. Mr. Phillippe was also a member of the Partlow Ruritan Club. He had worked for George Waite Lumber Company, the FMC and later retired from Fruit Growers Express Railroad.
In addition to his parents Mr. Phillippe was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Eva Phillippe; a brother, Clifton Phillippe; and three sisters, Gladys Shelkett, Verna Lacy and Virginia Clarke.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Elaine Hockaday and her husband, Nelson and Doris Hall and her husband, Lewis Wayne; son, Walter Phillippe and his wife, Billie Jo; granddaughters, Shelly Massey and her husband, John and Kim Bennett and her husband, Bill; great-grandchildren, Jordan Massey, Grant and Jillian Bennett; brother-in-law, Johnnie Clarke all of Spotsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, July 1 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at noon Thursday, July 2 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
