Samuel Ruebin Thacker, 83, of Scottsville, Va. died on July 28, 2021 at his residence.

Born January 17, 1938 in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Ruth L. Thacker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Janice and Barbara Thacker, and a brother-in-law, Irving Armistead.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Joy, of 57 years; a son, Allan (Lisa); a daughter, Nancy (Robbie); four grandsons, Joshua, Ryan, Tyler, and Sam; three brothers, Ollie (Joyce), Jimmy (Mary), and Ronnie; and two sisters, Joanne (Bill), and Linda (Mike).

He was a retiree of Centel and a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army. He loved God, adored his family, and enjoyed all things outdoors. Sammy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was loved by all.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Monticello Memory Gardens with Pastor Harlin “Chubby” Sykes officiating.
