Mickey L. Cox, 88, of Stanardsville, died on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born on December 9, 1933 in Charlottesville, he was the son of Eunice Marshall Cox and Downing Cox Sr. He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Mildred Kindrick Cox; sister, Mary Cox Allen; three older brothers, George, Claude, and Downing Cox Jr.; and a son-in-law, David J. Suchanic.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Doris Lyon Cox; son, David Cox (Jennifer); daughters, Daphne Cox and Angela C. Suchanic; and stepson, John Mark Lyon (Cierra Schwake). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cox was a retired dairy farmer and served on the Greene County Board of Supervisors for more than 20 years. He also held leadership roles in such organizations as Farm Bureau, Southern States Cooperative, the Greene County Planning Commission, the Greene County Ruritan Club, and Dairymen Incorporated.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Preddy Funeral Home, 59 Edgewood School Ln, Madison, VA 22727.
The funeral service, to be officiated by the Rev. Gayle Johnson, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Preddy Funeral Home, followed by interment at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Cox wished for donations in his memory to be made to Westover United Methodist Church, 2801Fredericksburg Road, Ruckersville, VA 22968, where he was an active trustee.
The family requests that masks be worn when attending the visitation or funeral service.
