Luther Oliver Utz Sr., 92, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on August 31, 1921, in Brightwood.
He was a retired farmer, u. s. Army veteran of World War II, and after the war he worked with the Selective Service Board. He worked at the Madison IGA for a number of years. He was a member of the Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church, American Legion Post 157, Brightwood Ruritan Club and served on the Zoning board of appeals. Mr. Utz also received the Madison Award from the Madison Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Jones Utz of Madison and numerous children and grandchildren.
Oliver was a charter member of the Brightwood Ruritan Club with 57 years of perfect attendance. Oliver held several officer positions over the years and was an active participant in many projects.
