John Franklin Kelley passed away at Culpeper UVA Hospital on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. He was the son of Charles Franklin Kelley and Ruth Elizabeth Bolen Kelley. He was born on December 16, 1927.

Preceding Mr. Kelley in death, in addition to his parents, were his devoted wife of fifty-one years, Dorothy Foltz Kelley; brothers, Charles J. Kelley, Everette W. Kelley and James T. Kelley and brother-in-law Carl T. McWaters. Survivors are his brother Robert L. Kelley and wife Charlotte; sisters, Dorothy McWaters and Judy Kelley Schonowitz and husband Cecil and sister-in-law Kathryn Kelley and numerous nieces and nephews and a devoted friend and caregiver Christine Dodson.

Mr. Kelley was a graduate of Culpeper High School and received his education from the University of Richmond and his master’s in education from the University Of Virginia School Of Education. He was a school administrator in the Culpeper County School system for 31 years. Prior to his employment in education, he served three years in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Kelley was a member of the Leaksville United Church of Christ and also frequently attended services at Oak Shade United Methodist Church in Rixeyville, VA. He was active for many years in the Culpeper Host Lions Club, Mitchells Ruritan Club, Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, and Culpeper Association of Retired Teachers having held many positions of leadership within these organizations.

Mr. Kelley’s philosophy of life was greatly influenced by the Golden Rule- treat everyone fairly and with dignity and respect.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oak Shade United Methodist Church, 16496 Oak Shade Road, Rixeyville, VA 22737 or to Leaksville United Church of Christ, 3424 Leaksville Road, Luray, VA 22835.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 5, 2015 from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m at Clore-English Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Leaksville United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Eddie Walker officiating.
