Clark Thompson Powers, 81, of Madison, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his residence. He was born on February 14, 1933, in Mount, Virginia, to the late Winter and Annie Tulloss Powers.
Mr. Powers attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He was very active in the community serving as Vice Chairman of the Madison County School Board, Regional School Board Member, Brightwood Ruritan Club and the Madison County Board of Supervisors. He was very active in the Madison County Lions Club where he established The Madison Award and served in many capacities, including President.
He was a district manager for Life of Georgia and later owned and operated Powers Insurance Agency, Inc. in Ruckersville from 1974 until 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, G. Gifford Hall Powers; two sons, Warren Lee Powers and his wife, Sarita, and Matthew Bromley Powers and his wife, Kimberly.
Additional survivors include his grandsons, Ryan Steele Powers, Noah Christian-Hall Powers and Caleb Marshall Powers; his granddaughters, Camryn Thompson Powers, Abigail Renae Powers, Kendall Lee Powers, and Bethany Erin Powers; and one sister, Mary Catherine Bray Palmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, W.D. “Buddy” Powers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 8, 2014, from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with the Reverend Ed Morris and the Reverend David Flack officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery (New).
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont for their love, compassion and care they gave to Mr. Powers and his family during this time.
