Oliver Burgess (Burge) Jordan died on Monday, May 29th, 2023. He was 88 years old.
Burge was born on November 14, 1934, in Richmond, Virginia, son of the late Robert Irving Jordan, of Florida, and Alma Louise (Jones) Hartmann of Richmond, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Ann (Morris) Jordan and his grandparents, Mr., and Mrs. Henry Clay (Louise) Jones.
Oliver graduated high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 2 years. After serving, Oliver went on to work for Seaboard Airline Railroad in Richmond, Virginia, from 1959 to 1967. Upon the merger of Seaboard Airline and Atlantic Coastline in 1967, Burge and his family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. He worked there as an accountant until he retired in 1993.
In 1996, Barbara and Burge relocated to Kents Store, Virginia, where Barbara was born. She preceded Burge in death in 2002.
Burge’s hobbies included coin collecting and being a member of the Monticello Coin Club in Charlottesville, Va. He was also an avid train buff. Burge was a lifelong member of the Ruritans. He attended Byrd Chapel United Methodist Church.
Burge is survived by three sons, Chip Jordan (Liz) of Tallahassee, Florida, Jay Jordan (Cheryl) of Palmyra, Virginia and Hank Jordan of Thompson, Georgia; a daughter, Susan Jordan-Fell (Don Fell) of Snellville, Georgia; and half-brother, John J. Hartmann (Tatter) of Henrico, Virginia. Burge has 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, June 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Byrd Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Neil W. McLaughlin will be officiating.
