Jefferson (VA) Ruritan Club Resumes Turkey Shoots

After a one-year hiatus, the Jefferson (VA) Ruritan Club will be conducting its annual Turkey Shoot at the Jeffersonton Community Center, 5073 Jeffersonton Rd., Jeffersonton, VA 22724 (Rtes. 802 & 621, east of Rt. 229) every Friday thru December 2, 2016 beginning at 7:00pm. Now in its 29th year, this is the longest running Turkey Shoot in the area.

All proceeds go to scholarships, local public service organizations, and charities. Thousands of dollars worth of beef, turkey, ham and other food items will be awarded. Snack bar every night. Winchester 12-gauge steel #7 shot, is covered in target fees. Steel shot can be used safely in any gun with choke designated ‘modified’ or larger. For both safety and fair competition, other designations, or barrels tighter than 0.69”, may not be used. All barrels/chokes gauged on site. Max 36-inch barrel length; no scopes. At their July 2016 meeting and annual scholarship awards ceremony held in the Jeffersonton Community Center, the Jefferson (VA) Ruritan Club and the Jefferson Foundation of Culpeper awarded the Thomas Rosenberger Memorial Scholarship for $1000 to Caroline Steimel of Jeffersonton and the Allen Ellett Memorial Scholarship for $1000 to Shana McMeans, of Culpeper. Caroline is attending James Madison University and Shana is attending Shenandoah University.

Florence Bakke, Roman Bakke, Dick Eaton, and Jim Tew of the Fluvanna County Ruritan Club have been busy fund-raising this summer at the Fridays after Five series at the Sprint Pavillion in Charlottesville by selling soft drinks.

Earlier in the year, the Fluvanna County Ruritan Club awarded two scholarships to college-bound graduating seniors from Fluvanna County High School. The Howard Cook Award for Citizenship in the amount of $250 was awarded to Eleanor Sechler, and the Fluvanna Ruritan Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Elisha Nicholas. The scholarships were awarded in May.
